A few weeks ago I had a consultation with
a potential new client.
He called because he was completely fed
up with his weight, especially the amount of stomach fat he had
accumulated over the past few months.
I agreed to meet with him because he
really sounded like he wanted to work and wanted to get rid of his beer belly.
What I learned was that Dan was pretty
much like every other male client I had met with over the past
few months.
He was a dad.
He had a very stressful job.
He had no time to devote to
workouts.
He was a stress eater and liked to drink
beer.
He was totally confused about what
exercises work and don’t work to lose stomach fat.
He wanted to get rid of his beer belly
and he wanted it done NOW.
I asked him what types of things he’d
been doing up until our meeting and he gave a pretty standard
response.
“I workout when I can, but I really don’t
have much time” he said.
He continued, “I want to spend as much
time as I can with my family, but my job keeps me from them too
much and I don’t want to head to the gym which will take away
more family time.”
“When I do workout I usually spend a lot
of time on the treadmill and then I hit the floor and do
crunches, sit-ups, or maybe some crunch machines and sometimes
I do an Abs class at the gym.”
I loved hearing this because I knew that
he would love what I was going to tell him and the results he
would get would be phenomenal.
I told him to quit the gym because it was
wasting his money anyway.
I told him to buy some dumbbells, a bench
and stability ball.
I designed a home
workout program for him that would obliterate his stomach
fat while only working out 10 minutes a day.
But on top of that, I told him to stop
worrying about doing crunches and instead add these abs
exercises to every single workout he did:
1) Stability Ball Jack
Knife
2) Plank (or some variation of the Plank)
3) Burpees
He wasn’t very excited at first, but I
told him to trust me and get back to me in a few weeks to let
me know how things were going.
He gave me a tentative nod and went on
his way.
3 weeks later he called me and couldn’t
believe the results he was already having.
He’d done the 10-minute workouts as I
told him, plus was adding those 3 exercises to every workout
and had already lost an inch off his waist and had more energy
than he had in years.
Not bad for 3 weeks!
