Did you ever see the
movie Jerry Maguire?
The one with Tom Cruise
where he’s the sports agent and he and Cuba Gooding Jr. yell
"Show Me The Money!"
It’s kind of a sappy, stupid
love story, but there’s one scene that a lot of people remember
where the cute little chubby kid says "Did you know the human
head weighs 8 pounds."
Everybody laughs and oohs
and ahhs at how cute the chubby little kid with glasses is, but
did you know that those same 8 pounds can make or break whether
or not you lose fat?
I don’t mean you need to
figure out how to lose fat from your head (cut your hair?), I’m
talking about that thing inside your head.
I’m talking about
self-belief and self-confidence.
When it really comes down to
it, how to lose fat comes down to believing in
yourself.
Yes, you need to perform
some fat loss workouts and have a proper nutrition plan,
but if you really want to know how to lose fat, you need to
figure out how to properly use that ball of mush in your
head.
If you don’t believe in
yourself and don’t believe that you can achieve your goals,
more than likely you are not going to succeed and you’ll keep
on wondering how to lose fat and wondering why you’ve
failed.
This is a problem I have
seen a lot over the years training clients both in person and
via the web.
Self-confidence and
self-belief are the two biggest factors that people struggle
with time and time again when it comes to how to lose
fat.
You may believe it’s
possible for other people to succeed in losing fat, but you
wonder whether or not you can do it.
You wonder if you have the
self-discipline to cut back on the junk food and stick with the
workouts.
You wonder what’s going to
happen if you show up at a party and refuse all the tasty
treats being presented to you. Will people think you’re some
sort of a health nut? Will they perceive it as a slap in the
face?
You wonder what will happen
if you fall off the wagon and eat an entire bag of Oreo’s. Will
that ruin the healthy weight loss diet plan you’ve been
sticking to religiously for the past few weeks?
I’m here to tell you that I
believe in you and I know you can succeed.
I know that you can achieve
what you set out for. I know that you know how to lose fat, but
that I’m here to help you along the path.
You can do it just as easily
as anyone, but you have to believe in yourself.
You have to flush out all
those negative thoughts you have floating around your
head.
You have to tell that little
devil sitting on your shoulder telling you that you can’t do it
to take a hike.
Self-belief and
self-confidence also goes hand in hand with desire and
determination. If you don’t have the desire, not just the want,
but the desire to lose fat and better yourself then you’re
probably going to quit whenever something gets a little tough
or you feel like you’ve had a bad day.
However, if you find
something that really gets you going emotionally...something
that you can hold on to whenever times get tough, something
that will keep you motivated and increase your belief and
confidence in yourself then you can succeed.
For most parents that
something is their kids. For others it’s just the desire to
look better both in and out of your clothes.
Both of those are great
reasons, but you really have to want it. It’s got to be a
reason that will make you drag your butt out of bed on a cold
day to do your workout.
It’s got to be something
that jumps up and slaps you in the face when you decide you
want to quit and eat an entire bag of chips.
It’s got to be something
that will help build your self-confidence and self-belief until
you no longer need that emotional crutch.
What’s yours? If you don’t
know, figure it out now because it’s very, very
important.
You also need to figure out
what the obstacles are going to be that are going to stand in
your way.
Figure out what they are and
get rid of them, or find a way around them.
Are you always tempted by
the drive-thru on your way to and from work? Find a different
route.
Does the vending machine
call your name in the middle of the day? Pack some healthy
snacks so you won’t splurge.
Are there certain social
situations where you know you’ll be tempted to eat and drink
poorly? Plan ahead so you won’t feel hungry during that
occasion.
Sit down and think about all
these things, write them down and read them every
day.
I know you can succeed, but
you have to believe and you have to find your reason
why.
There will be times when it
gets tough, that’s just a fact. But if you keep on believing
and putting into action the things I instruct you to...you will
lose lots of fat and you will keep it off.
All you need to do is
believe in yourself, find your reason why, and keep on
fighting.
I believe in you, and I can show you
how to lose fat and get the body
you’ve always wanted.
