Thigh fat and pregnancy weight seem to go hand in hand with most ladies. Sure some may gain more fat in their stomachs, but the thighs get a lot of the fat storage during and after pregnancy.

Just to give you an example, I want to share a client story with you and some of the exercises I gave her to lose her thigh fat and pregnancy weight.exercises to lose thigh fat

Anne came to my studio about 6 months ago. Her doctor had just been given the green light to get back to her workouts after she delivered her 2nd girl

She knew from her first pregnancy that she could lose the weight, but that it would be difficult and she wanted to shorten the time frame. With her first pregnancy, Anne tried lots of different diets and workout programs that didn’t work.

Needless to say she was pretty frustrated and it took her months to get rid of the extra weight, and the thigh fat was the most troubling for her. She hated the thought of carrying around the saddlebags for that long again.

The first thing I did was ask her about the workouts and exercises she did after the first pregnancy.

She told me she did a lot of classes at her health club, and spent a lot of time on the machines doing leg curls, extensions and those scissor-like machines where she worked against resistance spreading her legs apart and bringing them together.

She also said she spent an hour a day doing cardio either on the treadmill or pushing her daughter in a stroller on nice days.

She basically did what every new mom does when they try to lose pregnancy weight…the stuff they’ve been told or led to believe…but the stuff that doesn’t work, or if it does work takes too damn long.

I told her she needed to forget about all those exercises and to stop doing that type of cardio if she really wanted to get rid of her saddlebags and thunder thighs because they’re worthless.

I then told her that if she really wanted to not only lose that thigh fat, but get rid of all her pregnancy weight, she was going to have to do these 3 exercises 3-4 times a week in addition to working the rest of her body, and, if she had time, doing interval training.exercises to lose pregnancy weight and thigh fat

The exercises I gave her to lose her thigh fat were the Squat, Lunge and 1-Leg Hip Extension.

A lot of moms are afraid of doing those types of exercises, or using too much weight, because they think they’ll make their thighs bigger.

That’s just not the case, and if you believe that you’re putting the brakes on your weight loss success.

Muscle burns fat and you need to move a lot of it with a decent amount of resistance to really see any sort of weight loss.

There’s a lot of muscle in your legs and it just doesn’t get worked hard enough doing moderate or low-intensity cardio, or doing lots of classes or isolation exercises.

Squats, lunges and hip extensions work a lot of muscle and there are a lot of different variations so you’ll never get bored and you’ll keep progressing and keep losing thigh fat and your pregnancy weight.

I told Anne she needed to add those 3 exercises to her workout and to do them at the beginning of her workout, when she was still energized and strong.

Actually, here’s an example of one of the workouts I gave Anne to help her lose her thunder thighs, saddlebags and pregnancy weight.

Do this workout as a circuit; completing as many total circuits as you can in 10 minutes, and make sure you pick a heavy enough resistance to make the workout tough. You can’t lazily go through it and expect to see any results.

1A) Reverse Lunge – 8 per leg
1B) Push-up – 10 reps
1C) 1-Leg Hip Extension – 12 per leg
1D) DB Squat – 10 reps
1E) Mountain Climber – 30 seconds

That little workout is a killer on the legs plus it’ll get you breathing heavy because it works your entire body, plus the mountain climbers will get your heart pumping even harder.
